WORKSHOPS

Flower Design & Natural Bundle Dyeing @Vervain Flowers Farm, Worcestershire

  • Vervain Knighton-on-Teme Worcestershire

A day of flowers, where you will learn to create striking table centres with India Hurst of Vervain. You will then 'Bundle Dye' your very own table runner with Babs Behan. Babs is a botanical and mineral artist designer and founder of Botanical Inks who is passionate about natural materials and non-toxic processes which are respectful and kind to the Earth.

We will begin the day with tea and coffee in the barn where India will talk through the flowers and her process, followed by a short walk around the nursery (where India grows her flowers) and the garden to gather a few final stems for your work.
We will then re-group in the barn, where India will start the class by giving a short demo of a table centre, talking you through different vessels and how she creates shape and form in each one. After this you will then create your table centre.
We will then break for a three course lunch, which will be served in the garden (weather permitting).

In the afternoon you will create a bundle dyed table runner from organic British silk with Babs Behan.

A little about the Bundle Dyeing and Babs Behan -

A contemporary natural dye experience using “bundle-dyeing” to extract colour from flower petals and plant materials gathered from the flower farm and transfer them directly into cloth, without the need for the dye pot.

You will create mesmerising colour blends and dreamscape style eco-printed silk cloth, infused with herbal healing qualities, to make into a table runner, complementing your floral display and completing your table centrepiece class with Vervain.

You will learn to use a simple bind + steam dyeing technique and set colours using only natural materials, as part of a non-toxic creative practice, discovering an ancient herbalist practice of imbuing textiles with medicinal botanicals, gaining a further understanding of the origins of ceremonial natural dyeing and herbalism.

This is not a particularly messy class, however you are very welcome to wear something comfortable which you don't mind getting messy, or to bring an apron.
