Indigo Shibori Dyeing Social at Bristol Textile Quarter

  • Bristol Textile Quarter 1A Barton Road (1.60 mi), BS2 0LF Bristol United Kingdom (map)

Join us for a fun evening of indigo dyeing and hanging out with other creatives at the wonderful Bristol Textile Quarter. BYO item with you for dyeing and something to drink/snacks to share.

We will be using an organic indigo vat, set up in advance using just 3 simple natural ingredients - fructose, organic indigo and lime. Based on the 123 fructose vat recipe from Michel Garcia.

You will be shown a few simple shibori tie dye techniques to fold and bind your own small garments or items (A 100% natural fibre small vest or lingerie is perfect - nothing too big, heavy or fluffy), to up-cycle with this beautiful mystical blue colour.

Social runs 6.30pm - 9.30pm.

Price: £40/ Conc's: £35 - includes all required dye materials.

Please bring with you:

- 1 x 100% natural fibre small item or garment (to up-cycle with the organic indigo and shibori tie dyeing). A 100% natural fibre small vest or lingerie is perfect - nothing too big, heavy or fluffy.

- Drinks and snacks to share.

- You may also wish to bring an apron or wear clothing which you don't mind getting messy. Along with a camera to catalogue your creative journey.

There will also be our beautiful organic British-grown silk available by the metre to use in class, at an additional cost of £16 per 1/2 m or £32 per m for Haboutai and £17 per 1/2m or £34 per m for satin.

Rubber gloves will be available for indigo dyeing.

This is more of a social session, for those with some previous experience who wish to have access to a vat to use to dye with. There will not be an instructional session included in how to set up and use the vat. Some simple directions can be given in how to dye items in the session, so this is also suitable for beginners who would like to have a go at indigo dyeing.

You may also wish to attend the "MAKING & USING AN ORGANIC INDIGO VAT + SHIBORI" workshop the previous evening, to get a full introduction to the techniques we will be using in this session.
