Indigo Shibori Workwear Jacket

INDIGO SHIBORI WORKWEAR JACKET

A timeless workwear-inspired jacket, hand dyed in living indigo using traditional Japanese-inspired shibori resist techniques.

Each piece is individually folded, bound and dyed by hand in my studio on Dartmoor before being immersed repeatedly into a natural indigo vat. As the cloth is unfolded, intricate patterns emerge through the meeting of fibre, indigo, pressure and chance.

No two jackets are ever the same.

Made from durable natural organic cotton cloth and designed as an everyday layer, this jacket combines practical workwear styling with the beauty and unpredictability of traditional resist dyeing.

Each pattern is created entirely by hand. Every fold, pleat and binding leaves its own record within the cloth, creating a unique textile that can never be replicated exactly.

THE PROCESS

Shibori is an ancient resist-dyeing tradition in which cloth is folded, bound, stitched or compressed before dyeing.

Areas protected from the indigo remain lighter, while exposed areas develop rich layered blues through repeated immersions in the vat.

The resulting patterns emerge only once the bindings are removed, making every piece a collaboration between maker, material and process.

Each jacket has been dyed through multiple dips in a natural organic indigo fructose vat, allowing the blues to build slowly over time while preserving the intricate resist patterns held within the cloth.

THE COLOUR

Indigo is one of the world's oldest and most revered dye plants.

For centuries it has been used across cultures to colour textiles, workwear, ceremonial garments and everyday cloth. The distinctive blue develops through a remarkable alchemy of fermentation, oxygen and time.

Combined with shibori, indigo reveals its playful and expressive nature — creating landscapes of light and dark, movement and stillness, structure and spontaneity.

CARE

Wash only when needed.

Cool hand wash or gentle machine wash with mild detergent.

Dry naturally.

Like all naturally dyed textiles, the colour will continue to soften and develop character over time, becoming part of the story of the garment and its wearer.

Please note:

Each jacket is individually folded, bound and hand dyed. Variations in pattern, markings and colour depth are an intentional and celebrated part of the process, ensuring every piece is completely unique.
